June 2010

If you are trying to figure out where you want to go for your summer holiday this year, then why don’t you consider this little paradise called Torrevieja? When you are in this Spanish place, you will surely remember the heat of summer. Any visitor would not have any problem here – as far as amenities are concerned, especially the lodging places. Torrevieja hotels are located everywhere and rent-a-car companies are plentiful.

Torrevieja lies south of the Valencian community in Costa Blanca. You might find the name somewhat enigmatic. Yes – because the name is unusual – derived from a Spanish phrase. Torre is the Spanish translation of “tower” and vieja stands for “old”. There used to be an old tower in this place.

What makes Torrevieja accessible is its location – very near the Alicante International Airport, roughly 40 minutes travel by car. And if you are coming from Benidorm, it will only take you an hour to reach your Torrevieja destination.

Torrevieja is a place where it is almost summer the whole year round – an average of 320 to 340 days of sunshine. The average annual temperature registers at 20 degrees Celsius. This makes the place a favorite get-away. It is summer almost all the time. As it lies in Costa Blanca which is absolutely a water front, every beach in Torrevieja is very popular. It is because of its beaches that Torrevieja gained momentum in developing its tourism industry.

Some of the famous beaches in this city are La Mata, Los Locos, El Cura, El Acequion and Los Naufragos. There are notable coves towards the north. Should a tourist like you tires of the beach water, you can have a dip in the all-natural swimming pools, situated centrally in the town, specifically by the Juan Apancio promenade. And even the World Health Organizaton was taken by this place – the WHO declaring it one of the healthiest climates in the whole of Europe.

This beautiful place has been known also for the two large natural saltwater lagoons. And – tourists come here to get relief for their ailments like arthritis, asthma and rheumatism. Not only Spaniards come to the place, it has become a favorite holiday site of many Europeans. And why not – other European towns and cities are experiencing climate changes and when it is winter in some European destinations it is still summer in Torrevieja. This is the magic – you can easily travel to Torrevieja and enjoy the saltwater lagoons and the beach with its crystal clear waters, anytime of the year.

To recapitulate why you should find your way to Torrevieja - the place has simple things to offer. The simplicity however will be imprinted in your memories. These are the beaches, the saltwater lagoons, the all-natural swimming pool and most of all – the summer season you enjoy anytime of the year. Where do you think can you find another place with these features?
