Glass Oil Lamps Buyers Guide

by Robert Lawson on July 4, 2011

One thing that you can get that won’t go out of style are glass oil lamps. They have been around since the 1800′s and people still like them. When they first came out they burnt kerosene and were only used for light. Now they don’t burn kerosene because it puts off a bad odor and you can find them in many different styles. Instead of burning kerosene now they burn a paraffin oil. You can get many different colors and they can be used inside or outside.

You can get glass oil lamps in clear, frosted or milk glass and there are many different styles to choose from. You can get decorative designs on the base or the shade to help it match your other decor. They are great to have if you go out on your deck or patio in the evenings. These lights provide instant light in case you ever have a power outage during a storm and they even put off enough heat to warm you up if its a little cold outside.

Even though these lamps are pretty durable if you use them a lot then you might have to replace the wicks or possibly other oil lamp parts. Some of the parts that might need to be replaced include the shade, burner assemblies, the chimney or maybe even the filler cap. No matter what you have to replace you can normally find the parts you need pretty easily. If you want to get a longer lasting wick then you might want to consider getting a woven wick. Sometimes you might want to burn kerosene in your oil lamp, if you do you will need to remember to clean the oil tank before and after using kerosene. If you get a oil lamp for your home you will find that they are a great decoration that also has a good use. You can get ones that will match any other decor in your home.
