Evaluating Used Pallet Jack Trucks

by Robert Lawson on July 16, 2010

If you’re not careful, you can run the risk of purchasing used or faulty refurbished electric pallet jacks. Electric pallet jacks are extremely handy but they can be expensive to purchase when they are new. Purchasing a used electric pallet jack can be a great way to save cost, while enabling you to upgrade your warehouse equipment.

Saving cost is essential in today’s economic environment. There are many ways to do this without risking safety or loss of inventory due to bad forklift jacks. Make sure that when you buy a used forklift jack, you obtain the preventative maintenance manual or service logs. The previous service manual can give you a good idea of whether or not the previous owner did a good job of taking care of their old equipment.

Many pallet truck owners are very careless when it comes to maintenance efforts. For whatever reason,  people tend to become foolish and Penny Wise and Pound foolish.

They are willing to spend the thousands of dollars to buy a new machine, but when it comes to spending a few hundred dollars a year on basic maintenance, many owners will routinely skipped or delay these tasks.

It is very essential for you to make sure that the previous owner has maintained critical systems such as the hydraulic assembly, lead acid batteries, along with other critical electrical and mechanical hydraulic components.

Many accidents and injuries occur because of faulty equipment, or inadequate inspection. For example crack tractor wheels can increase the risk of rollover accidents. Roller accidents can be extremely dangerous as they can risk the life of your forklift operator, along with the associated costs due to inventory damage from drop pallet loads.

Another good idea is to make sure that there is an extended maintenance or warranty available as well. This can be a great way to many guys mitigate the risks associated with persons whose pallet jack equipment.
