Some of the hardest gifts to buy are retirement gifts, and housewarming gifts. Believe it or not, there are a few gifts that would work for either.
For Travelers
Retirees are often looking forward to travel, or more travel if they are already travelers. Many homeowners are also travelers, and buying a house may be settling down for them. They would both enjoy the following gifts, though.
*A world map. A world map that is marked with the places they have been or wish to go. Include special markers, which may be as simple as pushpins or sticky notes to mark the places they have been. New homes usually need wall art and retirees will enjoy the gentle reminder that they get to set their own schedule – “the world is now their oyster” as the saying goes.
*A travel guide for local or day trips. Many people don’t know how to be a tourist in their own town. This is a great way for new homeowners to get to know where they have bought a home – especially if they have moved from another city. Retirees can also have fun checking out the local sites before heading out on longer or more far reaching trips.
Other Gifts
*A gift certificate to a very nice restaurant. Moving is stressful and a nice dinner out with provide the new homeowners with an opportunity to get away. Retirees can enjoy the night out, and talking over dinner about something other than work for a change.
*Magazine subscriptions. For the new homeowner, they may like a DIY magazine or a gardening magazine. The retiree may enjoy the same if they would like to use their additional time around the house. Another option for either or both is a magazine for a hobby they have or would like to take up. Retirees now have the time and homeowners now have the space to pursue new hobbies.
So, while it may have been difficult to find housewarming gifts and retirement gifts in the past, now you have a few ideas that would work for both.
