My attempt at playing “Black Mountain Side”, a Jimmy Page acoustic instrumental from Led Zeppelin’s first album.
The track is supposedly Jimmy’s interpretation of “Blackwaterside”, a folk song recorded by singer-songwriter Bert Jansch.
This version of Black Mountain Side uses the DADGAD tuning, popular amongst folk guitarists (although on the Led Zeppelin album, Jimmy Page actually drops it down a further semitone to C# G# C# F# G# C#).
I’m playing a Tanglewood acoustic into Cubase, going through the “Roomworks” reverb on the “Room with a View” setting.

My attempt at Steve Hackett’s acoustic guitar piece Horizons from the 1972 Genesis album Foxtrot. I’m playing a Yamaha nylon-string electro-acoustic straight into Cubase, using the Roomworks reverb on a “Grand Hall” setting.
This is one of Steve Hackett’s signature acoustic pieces, which he still plays regularly when touring.

Hmm, must update this blog more often. Anyway, here’s a video of me attempting to play Jimmy Page’s “Bron-Yr-Aur”, a beautiful acoustic piece originally recorded during the Led Zeppelin III sessions in 1970 and eventually released on their album Physical Graffiti in 1975.I’ve got the guitar going through a tempo-synced delay at 170bpm to give it that nice “echoey” sound. The tuning is unusual - CACGCE. I don’t know of any other pieces in this tuning.
