Are you a smoker? Have you ever smoked one or two packs of cigarettes a day? Are you bothered by the smell, the costs and the adverse health effects of smoking? Are you a non-smoker but bothered by the negative effects smoking has on the environment and your health?
If any of these apply to you, maybe you should research the new electronic cigarette. It is called electronic because it is battery powered. You may have heard it called an e cigarette, e cig or a vaporize cigarette.

The electronic cigarette provides the smoker with nicotine (they even have non-nicotine kinds) vapors. To the unobservant observer, the electronic cigarette looks just like a “real” cigarette because it is roughly the same size, and it emits vapor. (Don’t worry, this vapor has no harsh affects to the inhaler, it is simply for looks, akin to a fake cigarette used in movies and theater.) The e cig is an alternative not just to cigarettes, but to cigars and pipes as well. (Which is too bad because the sweet smell of a pipe certainly has the ability to sooth the nerves). The inhaled nicotine vapor is not purely nicotine; it has a flavor that creates the inhaler to be almost unable to distinguish between a traditional cigarette and an electronic one. The great thing about this invention is that no smoke or combustion is involved in the inhaling.
Thus, the inhaler will be saved from the harmful effects of the deadly toxins in traditional cigarettes. The best part of the electronic cigarette is the fact that most are reusable; the parts are refillable and replaceable. While the initial investment is more expensive than a traditional cigarette, over time the e cig definitely pays for itself. Especially for those who are smoking a pack a day, or even a pack a week, the electronic cigarette is not only worth the money saved, but also for the changes in health benefits. Most people are aware of the deadly effects of traditional cigarettes. These can range from heart and lung cancer to strokes to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (or COPD).
The types of cancer that traditional cigarettes can cause, or at least lead to, are numerous. Cancers of the bladder, pancreas, mouth, larynx, lung and heart are just a few of the cancers that can be attributed to smoking traditional cigarettes. Deaths that have been attributed to traditional cigarettes in the 20th century number over 100 million. While tobacco use has rapidly decreased in the United States over the past 50 years (falling from 42% of adults smoking in 1965 to 20.8 % of adults smoking in 2006), tobacco use is rising in developing countries.
Smokers in general have health problems attributed to smoking traditional cigarettes, but health problems seem to be just as prominent in people exposed to second-hand smoke. This is because most of the harsh chemicals are in the emitting vapors coming out of the traditional cigarette. A few of the ingredients found in traditional cigarettes include, tar, formaldehyde, cyanide, lead, acetone, ammonia, carbon monoxide and hydrazine. If that list right there is not enough to make you want to quit or at least switch to the less harmful electronic cigarette, I don’t know what is. The electronic cigarette was invented in 2003, and it includes none of the harmful effects that are found in traditional cigarettes. Even though inhaling nicotine vapor may seem weird at first, it is certainly a step up from traditional cigarette use. If you are a smoker or you know a smoker, please tell them about the more health-friendly alternative: The Electronic Cigarette.
